Know-Vember

I’m not one for writing new month posts. I’m not thinking that that’s the plan currently. However, just taking stock of the year so far, paying attention to my experience and of those around me, I can safely say, it’s been quite the year.

It’s been an interesting year, with its typical highs, lows, and several points of constraint. I thought this morning of a song, Never would have made it by Marvin Sapp. Great song by the way. It made sense of everything whilst denying nothing.

I read a verse recently in the gospel according to Luke, and it was quite remarkable.

Luke 22:37
[37]For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

That same verse in the New Living Translation reads as:

St. Luke 22:37 For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: ‘He was counted among those who were rebels.’ Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true. “

The portion of interest is the last statement: for the things concerning me have an end. Everything written about me by the prophets will come true. I don’t know about you, but as a human being, especially so as a believer, I find it comforting, to know that there is coordination and intentionality concerning the course of my life. As much as there is spontaneity and seeming events of time and chance, actually beneath all that, and superseding all that, is a script, a carefully written script to which the writer is very committed to enacting provided I can cooperate.

And also the understanding that sometimes even when I am not cooperative or opposing, He can route my position to agree to the intended outcome. Ask Jonah.

It also means that good or difficult times are not ends in themselves but scenarios that have been worked into the script to add color to it.

What am I saying essentially? I am saying that in life, regardless of what you are going through, understand that there is a script, and God is committed to fulfilling everything that he has said. He not only said, but he has written also. Meaning that your life is well documented.

Look at this:

Joshua 23:14
[14]And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

This was to an entire nation and yet not one thing he said failed. Everything He said came to pass. I’m not thinking that your life would prove to be an exception.

It is written also means that you can read it, you can know it. If you recheck our opening verse, Jesus Christ was quoting from the prophets and was essentially saying that haven looked at the various things God has written concerning him in prophecy, there were still some that were yet to find expression. And one of such was captured in verse he had just quoted. And shortly afterward, we saw the manifestation of that which had been written.

So you have a responsibility to know and to live according to that which is written. It’s the preferred course of action. But to add that even when you don’t understand, you can take comfort in knowing that, there is a plan, and all that God has written concerning you will come to pass. Stay connected. Stay committed. Stay obedient. Taking responsibility for your life doesn’t mean becoming the alpha and omega. It simply means to cease being a passive participant and become an active partner with the Lord in obedience and submission. Don’t take your life out of his hands into your hands. It doesn’t end well.
