I remember when I was much younger then, whenever anyone- friend, younger one or classmate said or did something that was not particularly assigned to him or her, a common question, I tended to ask was, who sent you?

It was usually to prove the illegitimacy of the action even if it was indeed the right course of action to take. Something about the authorization for the act always came into focus. That’s also how we knew the ‘tattletales’ and the ‘I-too-knows’, they always did stuff no one sent them.

In our core pursuits in life, an important question to ask and to answer is this: Who sent me? This is important because if you fail to have an answer, life is mandated to ask you. And it would not be in your best interest to not have an answer in the day that life will put you on the spot.

John 1:6
[6]There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

We find in the Gospel of John, this particular account of John the Baptist. It’s worthy of note that, his authorization was stated even before his name. He was a man sent. I have sometimes been in situations wherein though qualified, the mention of the name of the person that sent me there was important. And it generally had the attendant effect of immediately opening up possibilities that hitherto weren’t available.

So our first challenge is this: Who sent you? I know you might ask, must anyone send me? Can’t I send myself? If your life must have a shape, path, and impact, you must be sent. For in your sending, you’d find the instructions, rules of engagements, tools, resources, authority, and so on that your life and its outcome would depend on.

The lowest level therefore is that of the man that sends himself. He will find that sooner or later, he would become stagnanted.

John 1:33
[33]And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

The assignment of John the Baptist was given to him by his sender. His entire reason for coming upon the scene was building up to this moment in time. Without this information and instruction, he’d have gone on baptizing people, great as that is, he’d never have struck the core matter of his creation and calling.

Our second challenge is for those that affirm they have been sent: What information and instructions have you received and are working with?
