Mortal Kombat

Good evening. Last time out we were considering the matter of some of the laws associated with success, which to my mind is established upon becoming that which God has called us to be, to the full extent of it, and achieving his desired end. However, strangely, this wasn’t necessarily intended to be a series of talks on Success.

It’s very important that we maintain a clear picture of our becoming, even if it’s not necessarily the full picture. Whatever we are seeing by the eye of faith ought to be clear. Why? Because the devil, our opposer has a unique tool he uses to make believers lose focus or abort the process at critical points especially of pressure.

Please pay attention. This tool is called Comparison. It often highlights the successes of others, especially those of our so-called “mates” and diminishes the quality of the steps we seem to have taken so far. Case in point:

Genesis 22:20,23-24
[20]And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;
[23]And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
[24]And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.

If we can, I encourage us to read Genesis Chapter 22 through.

God had finally given Abraham a son. And yet God was not done, Abraham was still a student in the school of Faith, a journey that started several years ago was still on, and as far as children are concerned, in this case which serves as proof of growth, Abraham just had one (as far as God was concerned).

Meanwhile, as you read this chapter, I hope you noticed after these things, about the dealing of God captured especially in this chapter. As if to say, whilst Abraham was still engaged with his business of faith, guys were already making it. So, suddenly without any prior hint, we are told of Abraham’s brother, Nahor, who has been so fruitful that even his concubine, has 4 children, asides from the 8 by his main wife. And there was Abraham with only one, the Mr. Abraham of God has called me.

The devil ensured Abraham heard it, not on the news, but it was told him. The Opposer wanted him to have that information. Why? How could Abraham account for all the years of obedience, when that which God was promising him, other men seem to be getting is at a cheaper price?

The answer is obvious. Other men got it according to nature and time, whilst God was going to give him that which was of promise and accounts to eternity. The devil wanted to shift him from the train of the process to the train of instantaneity.

We may not become what God has called us immediately, but we will become it ultimately, if we do not cast away confidence. And it is that ultimate end that will ripple through even into eternity. This is the combat of mortals. The fight to stay true God in untrue times.

Stay committed to the process, for he who called is faithful. He will do it.
