Jesus Christ: The Way

Good evening. In my next few posts, I’d by God’s grace be contemplating on a few things in turn based on some identifiers that Jesus used in reference to himself.

John 14:5-6
[5]Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
[6]Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

We start with the Way. We probably have read the above verse of scripture several times and as usual assume we have some idea about what it means. And we are probably right. I am the way, says Jesus. And we most certainly believe that he is the way. But do we understand what He means?

Let’s contemplate briefly. Jesus the Way to God. This much is clear, Jesus doesn’t leave us in any doubt at all about the way to God. He says with all sense of responsibility that He is the way, the only way to God. There is actually no other way. Men propose ideas, principles, ideologies, philosophies, but therein we see the arrogance of man, deciding that he will find another way to God outside of the one that the very God he is proposing to reach has laid down. Let it rejoice your heart, beloved that you are in league with Him who is the way to God, and by Him, you have been brought both into fellowship and relationship with the Father.

Now, we turn to Jesus the way of God. You see, Jesus isn’t just the way to God, but also the way of God. In Jesus, we see how God functioned and how He designed and desired man to function. We see Jesus, the expression, the system of God, His life is a compendium of the methodologies and ideologies of God. His life pleased and still does please God, because, his was (and is) the life of God. Nothing we do outside of how Jesus did it, will achieve the results intended by God. Nothing. Jesus Christ is the way of God.

Jesus, the way of Salvation. This sounds quite similar to the way to God. However with a slight but significant difference. Then, we had in mind, the road as it were, now we have in mind the gate. The world proposes as multi-gate system, in which there are several access points that will eventually converge into one common path. This idea is not only far from the truth, it is strange to the truth. To dispel all doubt, Jesus says:

John 10:9
[9]I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Our path to and with God is predicated on Jesus Christ. The opening sequence is through him. Any other door leads to a place wherein darkness and death is found.

Finally we’d consider. Jesus the way of Peace.

Luke 1:79
[79]To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

The above passage captures the prophecy of the Priest Zechariah with respect to his son John. The full prophecy is seen in Luke 1:67-79.

Remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace, so says Isaiah by the Spirit of prophecy:

Isaiah 9:6
[6]For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Who else but He who is the way of Peace could have the audacity to say stuff like:

John 14:27
[27]Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus said my peace. Only Him could say that and it would be worth the whole world, and moreso if you have walked in its reality, you find that it’s like you are a mystery to others, you wonder how could it’s holding together with you and everything else is falling away. It’s because the world has no peace, and whatever caricature it tries to give out in the name of Peace doesn’t pass muster. Deep down everyone who has latched on to the Peace of the world, realize that of a truth, they are troubled and or afraid in their hearts.

Dear Reader, if you are yet to know Jesus as The Way, that’s a big issue. But thank God, all that can be sorted out in a moment of time by offering a simple word of Prayer with sincerity of heart, for God is faithful:

Lord Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner, and I realize that you died to save me and reconcile me back to the Father. You have delivered me from the power of Sin and Satan. Lord Jesus today I accept you into my heart, I believe upon your name and I confess you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord for your finished work on the cross. In Jesus name. Amen.

If you have said the above prayer with all sincerity you are welcome into the family of the Beloved. By the power of the Holy spirit, you are a new man. Please do well to send a message to me or any of the other writers on the blog. We love you and we look forward to fellowshipping with you. Glory to God.
