It’s shocking how the world we live in has boxed ‘sharing testimonies’ into a stereotypical slot in between religious gatherings. This brings me to answer the question, ‘What is a Testimony?’.
A testimony is simply sharing actual events and experiences you’ve had, with others. It involves an actual acknowledgment of God’s goodness to you. The lyrics of a song say ‘Go tell IT on the Mountain, over the Hills and EVERYWHERE… That Jesus Christ is Lord’.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere– in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
I recently read the story of the man who was possessed with spirit(s) in the scriptures. In the initial phase of his life before he met Jesus, he was living a terrible life and couldn’t associate with people.
Whenever he was put into chains and shackles– as he often was– he snapped the chains from his wrists and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him.
He didn’t have a say about what to do or what not to do with his body because a great influence was at work in him. It wasn’t until a greater power was introduced that he got the reins of control over his life, the scales fell from his eyes and freedom reigned!
As a human that he was, he was grateful to Jesus and wanted to follow Him all around. Guess what Jesus told him?
but he wouldn’t let him. Jesus said, “Go home to your own people. Tell them your story–what the Master did, how he had mercy on you.”
What’s your story? What tales do you have to tell? Have you tasted of God’s goodness and handled them casually? What’s holding you back from sharing?
I agree that 2020 has indeed been a Year! So many tides have crashed, others overflew, and the world has been at the center of it all. Now it’s the last month of the year, what will your story be? Let the world hear IT!
1 Chronicles 16:8
Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
