Despite All!

Events in recent times have made me ponder on what exactly drives men and women to stand for causes they deem fit. How come their resolve grows stronger? How do they not give in to the pressure that shakes the life out of them?

Daniel 1:8
[8]  But Daniel determined that he would not defile himself by eating the king’s food or drinking his wine, so he asked the head of the palace staff to exempt him from the royal diet.

Daniel’s focus was solely to honor God and nothing could move him. So many times, we receive instructions that require us to make decisions and then take appropriate steps, but along the line, distractions set in. Don’t get overwhelmed by the force or number in which they come crowding in. Distractions are not made to last, they simply stay for as long as you permit them.

Daniel 3:15
[15] I’m giving you a second chance–but from now on, when the big band strikes up you must go to your knees and worship the statue I have made. If you don’t worship it, you will be pitched into a roaring furnace, no questions asked. Who is the god who can rescue you from my power?”

In my last post, I discussed some truths about the importance of the relationships we keep. The quoted scripture above portrays that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had to stand for what they believed in despite King Nebuchadnezzar’s threats. Daniel, their friend wasn’t involved in their decision-making process because he probably wasn’t in town but they stood their ground even in the fiercest furnace.

Daniel 3:17-18
[17] If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king.
[18] But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”

Sticking with what you believe requires one thing from you; Conviction. How convinced are you about the principles that govern your life? How much faith do you have in God’s plans for you? For the men of old, they were confident in the existence of Yahweh so they remained, unwavering in their faith.

Hebrews 12:2
[2] Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed–that exhilarating finish in and with God–he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.
