Have you ever wondered why Christians sometimes can’t seem to get over addictions and compulsive behaviours that constantly beset them? Having suffered from a similar plague, I have had cause to wonder about it. But of course, in the Word of God are all the answers we need to stop being “Wonderers”.

“But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].”

Galatians 5:16

The man who has had his spirit saved, still has to contend with the natural inclinations of his flesh, and the years of wrong training his mind (soul) has received. These two combined can take down the stoutest of men. But God knows this, and that is why He has given us this lifeline, a power higher than ourselves, His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

God knows our frame, and understands how hard we sometimes struggle against sin. But He also knows that the struggle against Sin is a battle most (if not all) of His children will never win by their own Strength. Thus, He provides a way of escape through a life of walking in the Spirit. Notice how automatic it is: if you walk in the Spirit, there will be no need to struggle against Sin, you’ll just find yourself not carrying out the desires of the flesh.

“and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:32

Walking in the Spirit is a truth every believer must know. The only solid proof of knowledge is practicing what you know. Walking in the Spirit habitually, in Word study and meditation, and in prayer has the capability to set you free from any besetting sin.

It is not the Truth because I say it is, or because it has worked for me. It is the Truth because God says it is (in His Word). Show some Faith, take God at His word, and be free indeed.
