True Joy

What comes to mind when you hear the word “Joy”? Excitement? Happiness? What’s the state of your heart when you get the answer for a request you’ve made?

Galatians 5:22
[22]But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, JOY (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness.

As a believer, I had always been sure that happiness is a synonym of joy, until I got a deep understanding of what it represents. Joy is more than an emotion, it is an evidence of the presence of God’s spirit within us; His children. You should never allow depression or gloom find its way into your heart as a carrier of the Holy Spirit!

Christ Jesus didn’t leave you without making adequate and specific provision for all you will need in a thousand and one years to come. He saw ahead of time that trying times will arise and challenging situations will come, thus He gave you His Spirit and Himself (The Word).

1John 4:4
[4]Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.

There was a time in my life when I suffered incessant mood swings. This was triggered because I easily got bothered by situations I found myself. As normal as science made it seem to me, I discovered I wasn’t helping myself by slipping into and out of those moods. I couldn’t handle relationships well and I was slowly ruining some friendships that meant so much to me. I got tired and then came to a realization that I couldn’t continue living life that way.

I knew there was only one place I could find help after I had tried to make everything work with my strength. I admitted this weakness and relied completely on the Spirit.

John 15:11
[11]I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.

Never let anything or anyone steal your joy! You own it, it is yours with your name specially written on it. No situation or person should dictate how you feel at any point in time.

Remember, God didn’t create you as an afterthought, so, don’t settle for anything less than what He has created you to enjoy. The true Joy!
