The Patience Scale

A seed sown takes time and season to grow. If nurtured well, it will blossom to become a strong tree. As much as the word patience is a “general” word or concept, it is peculiar and important for every child of God who wants to grow into stature and maturity.

Colossians 3:12
[12] Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper].

It definitely has not been easy for those of us who have found ourselves existing in this century. For every step you take, there’s always a process (oftentimes painstaking ones) to get things done. From a slow customer service timeline to terrible traffic congestion, and then long queues at the bank. Should these then get you into the impatient and angry zone every day? The thought of how many headaches it’ll cause should be enough warning for us to keep our cool.

Proverbs 15:18
[18] A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.

A quote I love so much says “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting“, it is not the duration of the time you spend waiting on God that matters but how you wait. Has God made you promises? And you’ve started making plans for an option B just in case His promise delays? Hold on tight to His promise to you, even though it may tarry, it will come to pass.

Romans 8:25
[25] But if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure.

For men like Abraham, Noah, and Job, they believed in the efficacy of God’s word and every instruction He gave. Why? They knew He could never have failed them. Why not take a cue from them today? Be confident that God will never fail you and you’ll be able to wait on Him with smiles on your face.

James 1:4
[4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

As His children, God is interested in the totality of our growth and all-round development. While He grooms us, He expects us to exhibit specific virtues of which patience is a crucial part of. Pay attention to your patience scale today!
