God promised Abraham, the father of faith that He would be his reward. Though it wasn’t an easy statement for a man to totally grasp or understand all at once, Abraham walked and grew into receiving the promise. How did this happen? You might ask.
And he [Abram] believed in (trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness (right standing with God).
Just imagine Father Abraham as a 21st-century man; he had no child of his own despite his affluence and age. What would contemporary society have said about him? I’m sure if he had been an author, his books would be bestsellers because there’s so much to glean from. 😃
Before the verse quoted above, God made some promises to Abraham; that Eliezer of Damascus wouldn’t be his heir but a child from his loins would be, and that his offsprings shall be as numerous as the stars in the night sky. And he believed instantly! With such obvious reasons, he had to doubt all that God said, still he remained steadfast in faith!
Because of faith also Sarah herself received physical power to conceive a child, even when she was long past the age for it, because she considered [God] Who had given her the promise to be reliable and trustworthy and true to His word.
Sarah, Abraham’s wife also didn’t doubt the promise because she believed in the One who made the promise. Through faith, she received strength to bear Isaac at the most unimaginable age!!! Are you going through trying times? Has everyone given up on you? Don’t give up on yourself because God is just starting with you! ❤️
When the sun was setting, a deep sleep overcame Abram, and a horror (a terror, a shuddering fear) of great darkness assailed and oppressed him.
Imagine being in a deserted street late at night, with no light and no where to go to. What runs through your mind? Fear. Dread. Danger. Today, God is reminding you that He’s right there with you. Even when it seems like the promise of God (The Great Reward) isn’t coming forth when you expect it; let Love, Safety, Hope steer your heart. Trust Him through the night and light will come in no time.
Who is among you who [reverently] fears the Lord, who obeys the voice of His Servant, yet who walks in darkness and deep trouble and has no shining splendor [in his heart]? Let him rely on, trust in, and be confident in the name of the Lord, and let him lean upon and be supported by his God.
Choose to believe in the One who made the promise to you, then you’ll be strengthened till you receive the promise!
