Ever heard or read a part of the scripture that says “… The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak?”, or have you ever been super tired that you can’t lift a finger to do anything as against all you’ve planned to?
Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
On a certain day, there was so much for me to do and I knew the best time for me to get them done was at night after I got home from work. I tried my best to get home in the evening in order to get enough rest and ” personal morale support”. But guess what? As soon as I lay down, I zoomed off only to wake up 5:30 am the next morning!!! I woke up feeling extra overwhelmed with regret and scolded myself for sleeping off.
Romans 8:1 Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.
Hurriedly, I started getting ready for work and it got to a point I just had to stop. I felt the need to understand that I wasn’t at fault for sleeping off. There was one simple reason, I was tired and my body needed rest. So, instead of putting all the blame on myself and condemning me, I started to deliberately plan my day. Drawing out structures on how to allot tasks to some free time that day, and at the end of the day, I had achieved all I had to even before the close of work.
Romans 8:2For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.
As humans, we all have desires and longings that sometimes drive us to dangerous destinations. But as a believer, you have control over the desires of your flesh because you carry the Holy Spirit. He is there to help you, it is only left to you to leverage God’s special provision of His Spirit in you.
Romans 8:13For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.
Giving your life to Christ doesn’t rid you of your flesh, instead it gives you an advantage over it and places you above it. Choose to walk with the Holy Spirit on your life journey and on days when you make mistakes, don’t let those regrets overwhelm you! Simply admit your weakness to the Holy Spirit and be committed to getting better. Don’t forget, the flesh can be defeated and subdued as long as you choose to follow the dictates of the Spirit. Then, you can cry “Abba Father!!!” as a Son.
Romans 8:14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
