About Fear

Fear is a vital part of human survival in our world where there are more than a thousand ways to die. The brain processes fear by two structures called the amygdalae, located behind the pituitary gland. They receive information from the sensory cortex, and then generate the secretion of hormones that influence fear and aggression. Just like pain, fear may be physiological, and fear may also be pathological, that is, abnormal.

Fear is a part of our human emotions, a part of our flesh. But when we allow it to shackle us from living our lives the way God wants it to be lived, when we allow it paralyse us from taking steps to do God’s will, when fear becomes a god who dictates terms and conditions of living to us, then there is a problem.

God is aware that in our walk of Faith, we sometimes will come up against opposition, and impossible circumstances that will strike fear into our hearts. In His Omniscience, He has provided several Words in the Scriptures that will protect our hearts from being ruled by fear. One of such Words is Isaiah 43:1-2.

But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

In our walk of Faith, we surely will encounter situations that have the capability to take us under and drown us, or consume us to a point that we are not able to understand what we have become. God knows that those situations are real, and can strike fear into the hearts of His children and prevent us from moving from Faith to Faith. God does not despise us for being afraid, He knows it’s our nature. He instead asks us to focus, not on our fear, but on certain Truths; He has redeemed us, He knows us, and has called us by name, and He is with us. The God of the Universe is with you.

Fear has the ability to blow things out of proportion, and that is why God would have you focus on Him, the Truth. Fear may appear real, but God is the Truth. Focusing on fear will only contaminate your faith, and cause you to walk in doubt, and thus live a life that can not please God.

Is fear holding you back from doing the will of God? Take God at His Word. Step out in Faith, knowing that God is before, beside, behind, and most importantly, inside you. God is the Truth
