Life depends on the… blood.

This is the 4th post in the series, and probably the most relatable so far.

In the Bible, we find a distinct statement, in Leviticus 17 verse 11, it reads thus:

The life of every living thing is in the blood…(GNB)

It doesn’t get any clearer than this. But let’s push the matter a bit further.

Let’s see the science involved, the blood contains amongst other things the Red blood cells, which as you would have guessed imparts the color “red” to the blood but not just that, they also contain a pigment- hemoglobin, which is responsible basically for Oxygen transport. We know how important Mr oxygen is to life, such that when you say someone has stopped breathing, alarm bells quite rightly start going off.

Blood is the conduit fluid of the body, anything that gets into the blood will get to just about any part of the body, if not immediately but ultimately.

Yesterday we said that the tongue is the custodian of life and death. Well about the blood, we can probably without fear of contradiction say that blood is life.

One very critical application for us is as regards what we know as salvation. When the Christian talks about salvation, quite rightly he soon mentions the atoning work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross. He then goes on to say that Christ shed his blood for you and I. It is not a false claim. The cost of remission of sins is the shedding of blood. But we have already established that blood really is life, in order words, to offer your blood is to symbolically also offer your life. So in doing that, our Lord and Savior achieved amongst other things, two that I will mention now.

Firstly, by the offer of his blood, there was remission of sins, which his blood atones for and blots out. For it is the blood that atones.

Secondly, by the offer of his blood, He brings us into another realm of life. The life that is premised on his blood. This the Christian calls to remembrance, every time he observes the Communion.

The price for redemption involved the offering of blood, the reality of a new life is premised on the offer of blood.

Physical life depends on blood unashamedly. But not only that, our lives in the scope of eternity depends on the blood. Life depends on…blood
